Setting a Static IP using an Eero Router

Assigning a Static IP Address to Your Le Potato on an Eero Router

Setting a static IP address for any device on your network is essential for ensuring consistent connectivity and reliable communication. Unlike dynamic IP addresses, which can change each time a device reconnects to the network, a static IP remains the same, making it easier for other devices and applications to locate and communicate with it. This is particularly important for devices that host services, such as servers, printers, or smart home devices, where frequent IP changes can lead to connectivity issues and disruptions in service. In this example, I am using a Le Potato, a versatile single-board computer often employed for media streaming or home automation projects. By assigning a static IP address to the Le Potato, I can ensure that it remains accessible for streaming content, running applications, or managing home automation tasks without the hassle of having to reconfigure settings or deal with connectivity problems every time the network resets. This approach enhances the overall efficiency and reliability of my network setup.

To assign a static IP address to your Le Potato on your Eero router, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Eero App:
    1. Launch the Eero app on your smartphone or tablet, ensuring you are connected to your Eero network.
  2. Access Settings:

  3. Navigate to Network Settings:
    1. Select “Network Settings” from the list of options.
  4. Go to Reservations and Port Forwarding:
    1. Click on “Reservations and Port Forwarding”. This section allows you to manage static IP assignments.
  5. Choose Your Le Potato:
    1. Find your Le Potato in the list of connected devices. If it’s not listed, ensure it’s powered on and connected to the Eero network.
  6. Assign a Static IP:
    1. Select your Le Potato and assign it a nickname.
    2. Enter the desired static IP address for your device. Make sure it is an unused address for your Eero router to avoid conflicts.
  7. Save Changes:
    1. After entering the IP address, be sure to save your changes by tapping “Save” or “Done”.
  8. Restart Your Le Potato:
    1. Restart your Le Potato to ensure it connects using the new static IP address.
  9. Verify the Connection:
    1. Return to the Eero app to confirm that your Le Potato is now showing the assigned static IP address.
