Day 7 – June 9, 2015

Day 7

Can I use field research (observations) to determine the key critical elements in my internship that require and produce high performance in this organization? Might a conversation with your DFE site supervisor be valuable?

Please apply the Reflective Discernment Model to articulate your learning: I learned that.   I learned that when.  This learning matters because…. In light of this learning

I learned that the field research done during the first summer when we worked in eastern Appalachia was helpful in understanding the way that recruiting is done in the Helm Society. In EPG we documented everything and in my current internship position, I am working on a project where I am a hiring manager. This position requires me to document everything I do. Not only that but the organization as a whole documents everything that is being done. To preface, the organization is only two years old so documenting everything that is being done in the organization is important so that we can have a record of what worked, what did not work, and what could be done better.

Understanding the business’ progression is an important observation because it allows for growth within the organization. My boss mentioned that any type of observation could be improvements that we can make; I realize that this is a mindset for success.

I learned this through the progression of my internship with the Helm society. In addition to working on the social network site for the Helm Society and the recruiting project I have been assigned.

This learning matters because in the perspective of a student I see only what I am assigned; whereas the CEO, needs to be on top of everything and documenting events/ tasks increases the strength of the growth and allows me to put things into perspective that the boss sees.

In light of this learning, being able to see where we can improve to get better rather than looking only at our faults is a mindset to success. Finding faults and documenting for improvements is also a key element in the organization. Overall, the validity in documentation is that it does not require much to create large improvements.
