Day 19 – June 25, 2015

Day 19

In what ways have my self-efficacy increased as a result of confronting complex, uncertainty, and ambiguity in the internship in the first month? Do you break things into smaller pieces? Are you more comfortable with loose ends? Do you take calculated risks? In what ways might you be more flexible, adaptable, willing to admit mistakes, and comfortable with false starts? [ECU]

I learned that my self efficacy has increased since the start of my internship. Everyday I walk into the office I have a sense of confidence. A confidence that conveys my attitude towards my work; a work that will be accomplished/ finished. Self-efficacy refers to an individual’s belief in his or her capacity to execute behaviors necessary to produce specific performance attainments (Bandura, 1977, 1986, 1997). Based solely on the self efficacy, I have overcome the complexity and uncertainty that my internship brought in the beginning. I remember wanting to verify tasks immediately with my boss; now, I take initiative into my own hands and build process on tasks assigned to me. Now instead of waiting for my boss to approve or give me a new task, I am leading others and they respond to me for certain tasks.

I learned this when I work with the groups I lead and follow.

This learning matters because it is important to understand your own growth. Personal growth is important especially when you recognize it. When recognized, that is where the true learning happens.

In light of this learning, I am able to admit when I commit mistakes because if I do not know how to admit them, it will really hinder both my growth and the organization as a whole.
