Honestly evaluate the way you respond to crisis situations. Are you happy with the way you react?
When dealing with a crisis, I first tend to shut down. When I say shut down, I mean I take my time to process the situation so I can make an informed plan of action. This process takes anywhere from 30seconds to 2 days. It all depends on the severity of the situation.
For example, during Homecoming of 2016 at Berea College, I was faced with many crisis’; however, it was not until I had to face the crisis of having 1 individual vomit in the back of the dance and 2 individuals pass out in the restrooms that I had to deal with an extreme crisis. It took me about 1 minute to fully understand the severity of the situation. The reason it took me a minute to process this is because I needed to analyze the groups involved and how not dealing with the situation would affect the event. The solution was clear. I needed to shut down the party.
Yes, I am happy with the way I react. I say this because I am a person who looks at the different contingencies and possibilities of different outcomes. Just using the Homecoming experience, I know that my way to deal with crisis situations is to asses and correct.
