Day 1 The jointing up process – Can I describe key components of the complex cultural contexts (organizational structure with charts, community mapping, supply chain analysis, structure of the local economy, nonprofit organizational analysis – vision, mission and strategies) that shape this internship organization? Provide specific examples of the tools and skills you have enlisted to learn about the internship organizational policies, procedures and practices in the Internship site. [ECU]
Please apply the DEAL-based Internship Experience Reflection Framework and describe a direct internship experience (objectively and in some detail) articulating your “joining up process” learning: “I learned that”….”I learned that when”… “This learning matters because”…”In light of this learning”….
I learned that the Helm Society works with many CEO coming from different areas not only New York but also other states. The events are structured accordingly; the host introduces himself and welcomes the CEO’s after all introductions have been completed, the Guest Speaker introduces the topic of the discussion and begins his or her presentation. A Q /A session follows the presentation and then they are dismissed. It is important to understand that each event has a different topic one event may be about health while another event may be about something completely different. These Roundtables are members paid members of the Helm Society and bring a diverse background to the events.
I learned this on my very first day as an intern at the Helm Society. My first day was a little hectic because I did not go to the office this was because the Helm Society was having a roundtable in downtown Manhattan and I was given the task to prepare things for the event. I was told that this will not be a regular task of mine. Unfortunately for me, my internship started on the day of a roundtable. Because of this fact, during my orientation, I was told I would receive my project on Wednesday of my first week.
This learning matters because I need to understand the functions of the business and comprehend what my role is for this internship. The better I know the business the better I can be of use to my internship and the more I can get out of my internship experience.
In light of this learning, I still have more to learn in order to get the most out of my internship experience.
